Icons for 13th Age
Icons are an idea from the 13th Age role-playing game, for which this setting is designed. Essentially, icons are mortals of great power who symbolize some kind of important role of power. An example is the Archmage, who is the ultimate wizard, and the Emperor, who is the ultimate human leader.
In Difinia, icons are imbued with the power of belief. Because enough people fear or respect you, your power grows to the point that the power becomes a thing. The power changes you so you’re more like what people believe you are. At the same time, it makes you stronger. In a different universe, enough of this power might make you a god, but Difinia’s cosmology makes that impossible. Every icon dies, and often someone else steps into his or her place. It’s usually an apprentice or logical successor, or a son or daughter, or a competitor.
Here’s a list of all the icons that have ever existed in Difinia. The ones that no longer exist are marked with an asterisk.
